Forces - Friction
Today, we carried out experiments involving friction. We made slides of the same height but used different materials: cork, sandpaper, felt, tin foil and paper. We made predictions as to which surface would cause a toy car to travel fast or slow. Which would cause the most friction?
We made it a fair test because we made slides of the same height and used the same toy cars. We used a stopwatch to time the speed the cars travelled down the slide:
Cork 0.46 seconds
Sandpaper 1.60 seconds
Felt 0.68 seconds
Tin foil 1.02 seconds
White paper 0.62 seconds.
We then went back to check whether our predictions were correct.
