The Lunar New Year is one of the biggest events of the year for many East and South East Asian people and it will be marked by communities all over the world this year on 10^th February 2024. Year 1 learnt about China and where it is in the world. They learnt about traditions of the New Year celebrations where families and friends  get together to eat lots of delicious food, enjoy fireworks and wear special clothes to mark the occasion.

In Chinese tradition, each year is represented by one of 12 different animals, which feature in the Chinese zodiac: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. The childen learnt that they were born in either 2017- the year of the rooster or 2018- the year of the dog. This year is the year of the dragon and we worked hard to design and create our own using toilet rolls, paint, pom poms, coloured tissue paper and googly eyes!
